Kielo offers modern commercial and office premises in Pori, in a historical setting right in the heart of the city. Torilinna, located at Eteläkauppatori 4, was built on the edge of Pori’s market square in 1936 and remains one of the city’s most well-known landmarks.
Archives of the Satakunta Museum reveal that in the early 20th century, a wooden, single-story commercial building stood at Eteläkauppatori 4. At that time, the property housed a clothing store, Gösta Wilsson, and Sjöberg’s clock shop. At the same time, the trendy architectural style known as functionalism made its way from Europe to Finland, propelled by architects like Alvar Aalto. Functionalism, or “funkkis,” quickly gained popularity among the practical-minded Nordic people. This architectural style was characterized by simple, boxy shapes, flat roofs, and large, smooth glass and plaster surfaces. Functionalist architects were drawn to the practicality and moldability of reinforced concrete, and thus its use as building material became popular. Consequently, the wooden property located at Eteläkauppatori 4 was demolished to make way for a modern new property.

Architect Jarkko Tähtinen designed Torilinna in 1935. Tähtinen’s work also includes Pori’s Bar Kino, which, as its name suggests, previously operated as a cinema, and Puistolinna in Tampere. Business flourishes near the market square, and the first businesses in Torilinna were various fashion and clothing stores. According to the archives of the Satakunta Museum, a travel guide from the 1930s even praised Torilinna as a “magnificent commercial palace.” The most significant changes at Eteläkauppatori 4 occurred in the 1970s–80s when the other properties on the plot were demolished, and the Satakunta Savings Bank commercial complex was built around Torilinna. The property was raised by three stories, and its higher bay window section on the south end was removed.
Today, the oldest building surrounding Pori’s market square, the historic Torilinna, has been completely renovated, and Kielo offers versatile and prestigious office and commercial premises at the location. All city center services are just a few steps away, and there are parking spaces available in the parking garage of the adjacent property and in the courtyard. Thanks to its central location, the site is easily accessible by public transport, bicycle, or on foot. Torilinna, at Eteläkauppatori 4, with its various services, invites locals to enjoy the city buzz within the heart of architectural history.
